Rena Inoue can't help but remember the early days of her partnership with John Baldwin. Like the hum of white noise, people asked her almost constantly if she knew what she was getting into.

Was she really going to skate with Baldwin, a longtime competitor in the singles scene but a skater who was known more for lackadaisical training and Western cowboy costumes than as a serious contender?

This team is not going to last.

That's all Inoue kept hearing.

My, how times change.

Not only are Inoue and Baldwin still together, now six seasons after they were first paired together, but they have also gone on to win two U.S. pairs titles and earned a trip to the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
